RUNS ON THE BOARD – a collection of new writing, poetry and images celebrating those players who have ‘runs on the board’ i.e. older players [men and women] aged 50+
Cricket is a passion in Yorkshire and the Runs on the Board project asks artists to capture that passion.
In the new exhibition at The Orangery the work of photographers Lucy Carolan, Jonny Walton and Anton Want is combined with the writing and poetry of Steve Toase, Nick Ahad and Andrew McMillan, to form a wonderful artistic landscape depicting the character of amateur cricket and the characters who play the game.
‘Runs On The Board’ was originally conceived and developed as a project for the Cultural Olympiad, the national programme of arts events that accompanied the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Project Director Graham Roberts said “Yorkshire cricket provides a rich canvas for artists, and the photographers and writers we have commissioned have captured the spirit of the amateur game in Yorkshire and drawn out its essence.”
The exhibition will be on display in the Gallery from Tuesday 28th January to Friday 28th February, 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.
Please join us at The Orangery for a private view at 6.30pm on Thursday 6th February when Nick Ahad and Steve Toase, two of the ‘Runs on the Board’ writers, will read from their work. To book your FREE place, please RSVP using the Eventbrite link below.
